Very nice, you're improving your gadget skills pretty quickly. Well done :)

EXTREME overkill. What if all I want is a gadget to logoff (not lock) / shutdown / restartt without all the useless gizmos and headers? Can I turn all that crap off?

Turn off?? You can disable the top text area. And there are other options as well, I suggest you read the support Tab located in the About section of options.
If all you want is a gadget to logoff than I suggest you download any of the simple gadgets located at Windows Live Gallery, there are quite a few that do this with 5 buttons or less. This was not the intent of my ACS Gadget bytheway. If you do not understand how to use the gadget, please don't call it crap. The title says Advanced Control System, the keyword here is Advanced! If I want a simple 3 button gadget, I could do this in less than 1 hour, tho, like I said there are already gadgets like this at WLG. Go for it!
There are plenty of users that find ACS extremely useful to them, you are the 1st to complain about having MORE features. But, like I said, if LESS is what you want go for it!

FYI: I have spent 6 months in total: Considering the gadget's features to make it as easy as possible (K.I.S.S.) to use, researching the best and fastest possible code and error-proofing all features, debugging, the layout, the options, and even giving it to my sister to test with her 2 sons (who are 8 and 10) and they understood it almost better than me (without me showing them anything). All this just to give it away for FREE! I have seen many gadget's that are coded much worse than the ACS, with features thrown all over the place in the options, that are sold for a price!

I understand that this is "advanced". However, in your zeal to cram as much functionality into the gadget, you ended up with a convoluted mess. You can only do so much with limited real estate before you need to expand to a new area and this beast of yours is way past that point. I've posted a screenshot of my desktop in my gallery. You can see that I have a variety of gadgets for various functions but all of them have one thing in common: they don't try and cram too much stuff into as little space as possible. As it stands, I did end up finding a control center gadget. i disabled the text and turned off the useless clock and date, removed the buttons I didn't want and ordered those I did in a manner that wasn't cluttered or unsightly. I even have a lock / unlock function. The gadget in question allowed me to do all of that.

I tend to like small, special purpose apps that do a limited set of things but do them well. I hate all-in-one software as there is *always* an inherent compromise. In this case, the compromise was in usability: cramming a ten pound salami into a five pound bag.

YMMV.

1st - Thanks for your feedback. I see you are using the System Control Gadget. The only advantage this gadget has over the ACS Gadget is that you can remove buttons that you do not use. However, there are many disadvantages when using the System Control Gadget as opposed to the ACS Gadget. But if you are not interested in the many more features that the ACS Gadget provides, than the System Control Gadget is perfect for you. As for a 10 lb salami into a 5lb bag, I disagree with that. More like a 5lb salami into a 5lb bag. This is a control system type of gadget, every feature is based upon that meaning alone, there are no features/options that fall outside of the meaning of "control system" .

ACS was originally built for personal use only. The only reason I decided to make it public was that there was a lot of demand for it. And am still receiving Thank You's from people for making it public to this day.

Please note that just because ACS is not a small, special purpose app, as you mentioned, doesn't mean that it lacks in performing the commands well, if not better than those small, special purpose apps.

If there are requests you have for the ACS Gadget, I will consider them.

Thank You :)
